Cyclops: Medical Image Interpretation and Knowledge Management

The Cyclops Project has been started as a long-term project by Prof. Dr. Aldo von Wangenheim and Prof. Dr. Michael M. Richter at the University of Kaiserslautern in 1992. It aims to develop and transfer into practice new methods, techniques and tools in the field of Medical Image Analysis using techniques from the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision. In this context, cooperations with german medical and industrial partners have been initiated in 1993.

The present project description concerns Phase II of the Cyclops Project, which focuses on a cooperation for the development of applications that could be transferred into practical clinical application within an international consortium. This consortium intends to make the successful achievement of the R&D goals of the project possible through a cooperation between Brazilian and German partners with specific complementary competencies in areas relevant to the project. This international R&D consortium consists of universities of both countries, industrial partners of the software area of both countries, medical partners of both countries and companies that produce radiological equipment. The activities performed between 2001 and 2003 and plans for future activities are summarized in the final report (German).
