Ombudspersons

The Trier University has appointed three experienced researchers among its full professors to serve as ombudspersons for safeguarding good research practice.

The ombudspersons act as neutral and qualified contacts for all members of the University in matters related to good research practice. They provide advice and, where possible, facilitate constructive conflict resolution. Please feel free to contact any of our ombudspersons, even if you are unsure whether a particular matter raises issues of good research practice or whether another office may be more appropriate to address. The ombudspersons work independently and discretionary. They will treat all information and enquiries strictly confidential. They will not disclose any information concerning your identity or the reported matter to any other body within the University without your explicit consent, including the University management and faculties.

The ombudspersons also provide confidential advice if you suspect research misconduct. They likewise serve as contact persons for individuals against whom allegations of research misconduct have been made, always maintaining confidentiality. If the ombudsperson identifies concrete indications of research misconduct following a preliminary review, the matter will be forwarded to the Research Commission for further proceedings. Any information you have provided will only be forwarded with your explicit consent. If you choose to proceed, no disadvantages for your academic career may arise as a result.

Further information on safeguarding good research practice and handling allegations of research misconduct at the Trier University can be found in the corresponding University Regulations. Alternatively, please feel free to contact one of the ombudspersons directly.
