Information for exchange students at the end of the 2025/26 winter semester
The winter semester lecture period ends on February 13, 2026. This also marks the end of your study visit to Trier in February. We hope that your stay has been successful and enriching for you!
To ensure that you can complete all the necessary steps in good time, here is the most important information on:
- Transcripts of Records Application for transcripts
- Certificate of attendance for Erasmus students
- Registration for exams
- Moving out of your dorm room
Please note:
Please read the provided files carefully and complete all necessary steps. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Signing up for exams
Please remember to contact the lectures about dates and modalities for your final exams, if you have not done so yet. Please be advised that exchange students cannot sign up for exams in Porta (exception: double degree students!) but have to discuss this with lectures/email. Please also mention that you are an exchange student and your student ID (Matrikelnummer) when doing so. All exams should be completed before February 27 (end of rental agreements).
Issuance of the certificate of attendance
The form for the Certificate of Stay/of Attendance (Erasmus students only) will be given to you by your home university. Please print it out. Please enter only your name (no dates of stay!) and bring the document in person for signature at the earliest 3 days before your departure date. The last possible date we can confirm is 27.2. (end of rental contracts).
Please do not bring the form to us (Office Incomings) but to the office of the “Central Student Advisory Service” (“Zentrale Studienberatung” also in the V-Building, directly on the right when you enter the building). We will let you know the opening hours of their office!
Transcript of records
Please read the information in the document Transcript of Records – Information carefully.
To obtain a Transcript of Records, you must actively (!) submit an application – please use the Application Form provided for this purpose.
You must complete one form for each department in which you have taken courses and send it to the department(s). The form has drop-down fields. Therefore, please use PDF software that supports form editing to fill it out. We recommend programs such as Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (available free of charge) or Microsoft Edge.

Other
Please also take care of the following matters in the weeks before your departure from Trier:
a) Return all books that you have borrowed from the University Library and pay any overdue fines and late fees that may have accrued!
b) If you have a bank account in Trier (and do not need this account after your departure), please close the account. But please do not do this before the Studierendenwerk has transferred the room deposit.
c) At the beginning of the semester, you (together with us) have registered with the City of Trier. Please remember to deregister with the City of Trier online (after having moved out)!
d) Please also remember to deregister for the broadcasting fee! The instructions for this can be found here (final page). Please also remember to attach a copy of your rental contract with the deregistration.
e) Exmatriculation from Trier is done automatically at the end of the semester (31 March 2026). If you want to exmatriculate earlier than 31 March - in order to safe the money for a German health insurance that you have purchased for your stay (usually Non-European students only), you can apply for an earlier Ex-matriculation.
Please follow these steps to do so:
- Find out the dates for all of your exams (discuss them with the lecturers, if needed).
- Complete the following exmatriculation form and give the day after your last exam as the date for exmatriculation.
- Send us the completed form well before the date of exmatriculation (at the very latest 10 working days) - by email to exchangestud@uni-trier.de. We will forward this to the admission office.
Please keep in mind that your “Deutschlandticket” will also become invalid if you exmatriculate earlier!. - Download your confirmation of exmatriculation from PORTA after/on the date of exmatriculation.
