The project “CHINARATRACK: Narrative in der Außenpolitik- und Energie-/Umweltkommunikation Chinas: Tracking und Analyse” is funded by the BMFTR (Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt) from October 2025 until August 2028. It is a cooperative project of the departments of Sinology (leadership), Media Science and Computational Linguistics.
CHINARATRACK aims to develop an innovative approach to identifying risks in cooperation projects with the People’s Republic of China through a systematic analysis of China’s domestic and foreign communication. To this end, the project team analyzes the emergence and evolution of frames and narratives based on continuous media monitoring.
Data collection covers five different communication levels related to China: party-state media, expert platforms, social media in China, accounts of Chinese actors outside China, and follow-up communication by German journalists. The project incorporates three languages: Chinese, English, and German.
