Orientation for new students

Orientation for new students take place one week before the start of classes at Trier University and signals the start of your studies.

Orientation provides an opportunity to explore the campus, get to know other students and professors/lecturers as well as to ask questions. There is a lot to be gained by taking part!

For a successful start to your studies, we highly recommend attending the different introductory events hosted by your degree programme. They take place from 11.04-13.04. and are offered online and on campus.

 



Introductory Events on site

Welcome greeting and free coffee for new students

Welcome greeting for all new students by the president of Trier University, Prof. Dr. Michael Jäckel, mayor of Trier Elvira Garbes and respresentatives of Trier Universitity.
11.04., at 09:00 in the Audimax. Afterwards, Studiwerk invites all new students for coffee at Mensa and to learn to speak your first words in Trier dialect.

How does Mensa work?

To help you find your way to coffee in the morning and learn how to use the payment system like a pro at lunch, Studiwerk offers new students at Trier University a short tour of the building on the following three days:
12. &13.04., 11:00 am each day. Meeting point in front of the SO!- Studiwerk Office.

Campus Tours

Our 30-minute campus tours start at 15:00 on each day of orientation. Tours are in German and start in front of Mensa.

Get to know AStA

Get to know the "Allgemeinen Studierenden Ausschuss". They will be at the information stand in front of room B 15 (10:00-13:00 h). 
And maybe stop by Cafe Kunterbunt at the Studihaus for a fair trade coffee or a cold drink to relax from Orientation stress.

Info session: TUNIKA

Pay in the Mensa, borrow books from the library and use buses and trains in the area covered by your card: Your TUNIKA student card can do so much! Find out more about how to use and update your card in our short info session in German, which we offer on all O-days in lecture hall HS 7 at 11. & 12.04. and 13.04., from 12:30 - 13:00

PORTA consultation hour

You tried navigating PORTA but ran into technical difficulties? You tried putting together your semester plan but are not getting very far or are unsure? We can help. On all O-days we offer a PORTA trouble-shooting session in room A 8. Just drop by and bring your PORTA registration data: at 12:00 on the 11. or 12.04.

Get to know the student representatives

Student representatives are students in higher semesters that represent their department/subject. They represent the interests of all students in the subject, e.g. in university committees, but they also know a lot about courses and timetables. Drop by room A9/10 after your introductory lecture and get to know your student representatives.

Tour of UniSPORT

At 17:00, the UniSport Team offers a tour around the sport facilities on campus and highlight the different sports courses and possibilities. The tours will be in German and begin in front of Mensa.

Hello first-year students with a disability!

Whether you have a visual impairment, chronic illness, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, dyslexia or are dealing with mental health issues - it can be challenging to navigate your studies with a disability. The Student Counselling Centre offers information and assist students in navigating their way.

Student clubs and societies

Whatever your interest, there might be a club or society for you, may it be in politics, media, or environmental groups. You can become involved in any one of the clubs and societies that interests you. During Orientation you'll have lots of opportunities for meeting like-minded people.
