Seminar registration for summer 2024

In order to obtain seminar places in the B.Sc./M.Sc. Psychology for the wintersemester 2023/24, you must enter your seminar preferences in the PROZA seminar system in the fourth and third last week before the start of the lecture period (18.03.2024 - 01.04.2024). Instructions and the access link can be found below.

Seminar registration

The allocation to the (main subject) seminars of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programme of Psychology is binding via the preference-based online seminar system (PROZA). You will find the access link at the end of this page. It is essential to read the following instructions so that you will not suffer any disadvantages in the seminar allocation (and possible delays in your studies):

  1. Procedure: During an entry phase before the start of the lecture period, you choose from our range of seminars which ones you would like to take and which preferences you have for these seminars. A few days after the end of the input phase, you can log into PROZA to view your allocated seminars. The departments receive the participant lists for their seminars and enter them into PORTA.
  2. Input phase: Log in during the fourth and third last week before the start of the lecture period to enter your seminar preferences. You will find the access link at the bottom of this page. To log in, use the username and password of your university student account, which you will receive from the Computer Centre (ZIMK) at the beginning of your studies. You can change your preferences as often as you like during the input phase.
  3. Your input: In PROZA you choose which seminars you would generally like to attend and then rank them according to your preferences. If you still need a certain type of seminar, put all parallel events of this type on your preference list if possible. Lower preferenced seminars then act as a safety net in case you do not get your most preferred ones. For example: If you still need a POV in the Master's programme, put all POVs on your list if possible. Then enter your seminar preferences in such a way that you give a high preference to POVs with tracks, topics, methods, and dates that are attractive to you. If you only put a few seminars on your list and do not get allocated to any of them (e.g. due to bad luck in drawing lots), you may end up empty-handed. There is no entitlement to be allocated only to seminars on certain contents, in certain tracks, etc. If you want to complete your Master's degree within the current semester, be careful not to put any FOVs or POVs on your preference list that are scheduled for two semesters. PROZA only avoids time overlaps between seminars allocated by PROZA (and the lectures of psychology). You have to pay attention to possible time overlaps with other seminars (e.g. Wipro, seminars from other subjects, 2nd seminar of a FOV or POV) yourself when compiling your preference list.
  4. Waiting list: For each seminar, the system also creates a waiting list with a maximum of 10 spots. If you get into a seminar via the waiting list, you will usually be informed by the lecturer or the respective department secretariat by e-mail.
  5. Readjustment of the teaching offer: After allocation, seminars with open spots, are displayed in PROZA. Contact the lecturers directly to get into these seminars. In PROZA we see seminars in which more students wanted spots, than were available. Occasionally we can spontaneously offer additional seminars, which we will inform you about by email or in the lectures.
  6. Accepting/Declining seminar spots: If you are not present in the first session, you will usually loose the allocated seminar spot (timely consultation with the lecturer is necessary) and someone from the waiting list will move up. If you realise that you cannot or do not want to take up an allocated seminar spot, inform the respective departmental secretariat as early as possible via e-mail. This will not cause any disadvantage for you and someone else can move up from the waiting list.
  7. Hardship: Students with children, chronic illnesses or other special life situations can register as a hardship case with Ursula Weiland, office assistant in the Department of Educational Psychology before the seminar allocation and thereby receive additional points in the allocation (please submit the relevant evidence). Of course, you can also contact lecturers directly with questions and concerns at any time. Working while studying does not count as a hardship case, because there are part-time psychology degree programmes, but ours is not one of them.
  8. Missing login data: If you are a first-year student and did not receive your username and password from the Computer Centre (ZIMK) before the end of the entry phase, you will not suffer any disadvantages as a result. Career changers and students in the 1st semester of the Master's programme can directly contact the lecturers in whose courses they need a spot. If there are no more spots available, you can catch up on the seminars in the second semester without stress.
  9. Transition from BSc to MSc: If you are still enrolled in the Bachelor's programme in Psychology but already want to take courses in the Master's programme, this is no problem. Simply set your data in PROZA as if you were already studying in the MSc. You can then enter your preferences for seminars from the Master's programme and receive corresponding seminar spots. However, in PROZA you can only put either courses from the BSc or from the MSc on your list. It is not possible to mix both.
  10. Lectures and colloquia: You register for psychological lectures and colloquia yourself via PORTA, as the number of participants is usually not limited there. However, you can and should select these events in PROZA. You will then be assigned only to those seminars that do not overlap with your lectures and colloquia.
  11. Seminars and lectures not in PROZA: You register for minor subject courses and exams via PORTA. You will be assigned to WiPros and the second course of each of the substantive Master's modules C to Q by the module supervisors outside PROZA and registered in PORTA. (If PROZA assigns you to an EmPra, the module officer will enroll you in an associated WiPro the semester after. For example, if PROZA assigns you to a C1 seminar, the lecturer will enroll you in an associated C2 seminar). These courses are therefore not available in PROZA.
  12. Change to the new examination regulations (PO 2020): In order to adapt our Bachelor's degree programme to the requirements of the Act on the Reform of Psychotherapist Training (Gesetz zur Reform der Psychotherapeutenausbildung), a new exam regulation (PO 2020) will apply to students from WiSe 2020, which contains slightly different courses than the previous PO. PROZA only shows you the courses of your respective PO to avoid confusion. If you are studying according to the old PO and need a seminar that is actually in the module plan for a lower semester but is no longer offered (e.g. if you want to catch up on K2 EDV in the 5th semester), you can take suitable seminars from the new PO as a substitute and have them recognised (e.g. B3 Research and Data Analysis according to the new PO as a substitute for K2 EDV according to the old PO). The subject examination board will announce details shortly. Because the seminars of the new PO are not displayed in PROZA, you can contact the lecturers directly about the seminar spot. They have been informed by circular email and asked to accept you.
  13. Assignment criteria: All students who have placed a seminar on their list, who have not yet been assigned to a concurrent course and who have not yet received another seminar spot in the same module, are placed on a list and receive a point value. The students with the most points receive a seminar spot. If the points are equal, the programme draws. Each student receives 100 points. The following points are added to or subtracted from this (trial phase; exact values may still change):
  • - 2x the student's preference for the seminar, so that a high preference only leads to a small deduction and thus to a high point value
  • - 4x the number of seminars already allocated to the student in this semester, so that students who have only been allocated a few seminars so far are preferred, resulting in an approximate equal distribution of spots across people
  • + 20 points, if the student's semester number is higher than the semester in which one should attend the seminar according to the module plan, so that no one's studies are delayed
  • - 20 points if the number of semesters of the student is lower than the semester in which one should attend the seminar (according to the module plan), so that the lower semesters can only attend seminars if they do not take a place away from a higher semester student
  • + 20 points if you still need at least one FOV or POV in the Master's programme but have not yet been assigned one in that semester, so that every student is assigned at least one FOV or one POV every semester if possible
  • Hardship cases have advantages in seminar allocation due to additional points
  1. Information of the semester: For data protection reasons, PROZA is not allowed to read out your semester from the university databases; you have to enter it yourself in PROZA. However, your actual semester will be shown to us when you enter the seminar attendance lists in PORTA. If it becomes apparent that you had unfair advantages by entering a higher semester number in PROZA, your spot in the seminar will be withdrawn. A person from the waiting list will then receive your spot
  2. FAQ: If you have questions about why you (did not) receive certain seminars after you have been allocated, please take a look at the FAQ. Only contact the persons listed below if your question is not answered in the FAQ.
  3. Contact for questions:
    1. Questions about specific courses, your entries in PROZA and PORTA as well as your participant lists: respective department secretariat or lecturer of the course
    2. Questions about entire modules (e.g. all seminars in Clinical Psychology in one semester): Module Officer (see Module Manual)
    3. General questions about the courses offered as well as your personal course of study: Subject-specific course guidance (separate for Bachelor's degree programme and Master's degree programme)
    4. Feedback on the range of courses offered and the organisation of the course: Psychology Student Council, which then passes the points on to the lecturers
    5. Numerous contacts in the subject and university who can help you with other questions are listed here
