Birth control pills and mood

[Translate to Englisch:] Bild

What is it about?

Taking the contraceptive pill can be accompanied by mood swings, with both mood improvement and deterioration possible. Why the contraceptive pill has different effects is still largely unclear. Apart from individual differences, the dosage regimen and the active ingredient in the pill could be decisive factors here.

In this study, we therefore want to investigate how dosage regimens and different pill preparations affect mental well-being. This study is being conducted in cooperation with the Department of Gynecology at the Borromäerinnen Motherhouse Hospital in Trier.

Who can participate?

Healthy female subjects aged 18-35 who use birth control pills. You should also not be taking any regular medication and smoke less than 5 cigarettes a day.

How does the study work?

The study consists of two measurement appointments, one during active pill use and one during the pill break. The appointments will take place at our premises at Johanniterufer 15 and will last one hour each. To determine your hormone levels, medical staff will take a blood sample and ask you to provide three saliva samples. You will also be asked to fill out questionnaires about your mood.

Upon completion of the study, you will receive €80 as compensation for your time and effort (or alternatively 2 Sona credits + €60).

How can I participate?
