Short description of the project:

What is China? How can we grasp a country that makes the headlines almost daily? That has long been an integral part of our everyday lives? And yet the images we associate with China often seem outdated. China competence is important, but the gaps in German society are still large. Everyone talks about needing to know China better. We are doing something so that pupils can actually put this into practice.

With the project "China Pictures", the Sinology Department of the University of Trier offers a series of insights into the world of China and Taiwan. Current topics are in the foreground here. How is China dealing with climate change? What is the truth about the social credit system? And what is driving Taiwan in its "Digital Democracy" project? Within the framework of our project, the students should not only be taught pure knowledge, they should also be encouraged to critically question information, to process it correctly and to place it in larger contexts. A big task, but one that we as a team are happy to take on.

This school year will be about the "Digital Society". The individual events are asynchronous until March 2022. However, if you have any questions, our lecturers can always be reached by email. The project is recommended for students in tenth grade and above. If you are interested in participating, please write an email to klink(at)uni-trier.de.
