Conflict in the Indo-Pacific: Matthias Naß analyses the tensions between the USA and China

On 13 November 2024, the event on the field of conflict in the Indo-Pacific will take place in the administration of the Karl Marx House. Dr Josie-Marie Perkuhn will lead the discussion with the audience. More information about the event can be found on the flyer.

From 7 to 9 November 2024, the project ‘Taiwan as Pioneer’ will host the international workshop ‘Mapping Taiwan Teaching - Teaching Taiwan in Script, Speech and Performance’. Further information on the lectures can be found on the flyer.

TAP@ Informal Meeting Grounds

On 22 October 2024, the Research Centre for East Asian Studies invited Dr Josie-Marie Perkuhn from the ‘Taiwan as a Pioneer’ (TAP) project at Trier University to give a lecture at the university.

On 30 September, the TAP team in Bochum hosted an international workshop on ‘Digital Teaching and Digital Humanities in Taiwan Studies. 

Field research in Taiwan in October

On October 9th, 2024, Dr Josie-Marie Perkuhn travelled to Taiwan once again to continue the research trip she began in January.

TAP @ Iserlohner Kreis 2024

On 27.07.2024, Dr Josie-Marie Perkuhn gave a technical input on her research findings on ‘Taiwan's Green Energy Transition during the Tsai Years’ at the China Workshop of the Iserlohner Kreis.

Wargaming and simulation against the backdrop of the ‘turning point’ in German security policy

On 26 June 2024, Dr Perkuhn once again had the opportunity to work with an interested group and motivated troops in the tactical simulation game ‘Next War. Taiwan’ (2014) to familiarise them with the historical background and current tensions between China and Taiwan and to conduct an experience and evaluation survey.

Dr. Perkuhn started 2024 with a research trip to the south of Taiwan: including a visit to Taichung Harbour, a guided tour through the Shalun Green Energy Technology Demonstration Site, and a research visit at the National Academy of Marine Research (NAMR) in Kaohsiung.

Prof Huang from Chengchi University gives lecture on maritime literature and Chinese as a foreign language

On 18 April 2024, Prof Huang gave a lecture on maritime literature at Trier University. The lecture languages were English and Chinese.

TAP @ ISA convention

On 3 April 2024, Dr Josie-Marie Perkuhn presented two research papers from the TAP project at this year's International Studies Association Convention in San Francisco, CA, USA.

Presidential and parliamentary elections in Taiwan 2024

On 1 February 2024, the Taiwan Research Centre at Ruhr University Bochum hosted a panel and audience discussion to analyse the results and background to the election.
