These were presented at the Trier conference ‘Political Journalism: Constellations - Patterns - Dynamics’ in September 2022 with over 100 participants and expanded and revised for the new book.
The Trier editorial team consists of Prof. Dr Christian Nuernbergk and Nina Fabiola Schumacher (both Trier, photo), who also organised the conference. Further editors are Dr Jörg Haßler (LMU Munich) and Prof Dr Jonas Schützeneder (University of the Federal Armed Forces, Munich). Christian Nuernbergk on the publication of the book: ‘We are very pleased that we can bring together many high-quality contributions in this edition and especially that the book will remain free of charge in the digital version thanks to funding. It provides students, researchers and journalists with material for discussion.’

This volume offers a variety of research perspectives on political journalism and its reporting. The contributions show different methodological approaches for the analysis. The patterns of political journalism are predominantly outlined in a hybrid and digital media context. One focus is directly on journalists in social media. Several contributions shed light on mediation constellations and provide information on changes in the relationship to politics and the audience. The volume is aimed at researchers, teachers and students in the field of journalism research and political communication research.
