Media Studies in Taiwan: Conference Trip and Exchange with NCCU and NTU

Professors Jürgens and Nuernbergk traveled together to Taipei, where they visited various academic institutions and universities. The highlight of the trip was their presentations at the 5th Joint Conference of the National Chengchi University with Trier University.

Pascal Jürgens presented research on the topic “Framing Social Groups: Stereotypes as Drivers of Polarization in German News Coverage.” Christian Nuernbergk gave a talk titled “Observing the Observers: Researching Political Journalism on Social Media Platforms.” Both professors were part of a large delegation led by University President Eckkrammer. Numerous disciplines from Trier (Sinology, Japanese Studies, Law, English Studies, Digital Humanities) participated in the trip. The program also included meetings with researchers from the National Taiwan University as well as the former Digital Minister of Taiwan (2022-2024), Audrey Tang, a well-known pioneer for free software. The aim of the trip in March and April 2025 was to strengthen scientific cooperation between Taiwan and Trier and to enable student exchanges.
