Social programme – DGfS meets Trier

Conference Warming

Date: Tuesday, February 24 from 18:00 on

Place: Weinwirtschaft Friedrich Wilhelm

Interesting facts: Centrally located in the old town – attached to the former seminary with the auditorium where Karl Marx took his school-leaving exams; diagonally opposite is the Constantine Basilica, the former palace hall of the Roman emperors, which was converted into the Protestant church ‘Zum Erlöser’ (To the Saviour) by the Prussians in the 19th century. It's definitely worth a visit!

Cuisine: There will be a ‘small menu’ for DGfS participants – including vegan, regional and Lebanese options. The wine business has its own vineyard – range of the Episcopal vineyards.

Reception by the Mayor of Trier

Date: Wednesday, February 25 from 19:00 on

Place: Thermen am Viehmarkt

Interesting facts: The Viehmarktthermen are the well-preserved remains of one of the three large Roman baths in Trier and one of the city's eight World Heritage Sites. Discovered during construction work for an underground car park, today they are excellently preserved by a large glass structure – also centrally located in the city centre, a truly unique location.

The mayor has his own specially bottled ‘mayor's wine’, a Riesling, as befits a wine-growing town, which is served at receptions.

Social evening

Date: Thursday, February 26 from 18:30 on

Place: Mensa Tarforst Uni Trier, Campus I

Cuisine: Regional cuisine: Moselle – Eifel – Hunsrück

for example, Trier spit roast, vegetarian ‘Döppelappes’ (a potato casserole) or vegan ‘Tresterfleisch’ with side dishes, as well as a dessert buffet with regional specialities (vegan options available, of course).

Beforehand, there will be a champagne reception with the Vereinigten Hospitien (foundation winery with the oldest wine cellar in Germany – formerly a Roman granary, founded by Napoleon after secularisation, has prime locations on the Moselle and Saar rivers, member of the VdP). Non-alcoholic sparkling wine will also be served.

Additional beverages, including non-alcoholic options, will also be provided.
