Historical Regional Studies – Chair of Prof. Dr. Stephan Laux

Welcome to the website of “Historical Regional Studies” – the department dedicated to regional and local history in research, teaching, and public outreach!

Historical Regional Studies is a traditional term for historical research and teaching with a regional and local focus, using interdisciplinary methods. The professorship, established with the founding of the University of Trier in 1970, focuses primarily on the Early Modern period, while also addressing more recent history. Geographically, the emphasis lies on Rhineland-Palatinate and its predecessor states, as well as neighboring regions, alongside comparative approaches.
