The Autonomous Student Council Gathering (Autonomes Fachschaften-Treffen) is the union of the student councils of the University of Trier.

It is an organ of the student body of the University of Trier (Körperschaft des öffentlichen Rechts) in accordance with the statute of the student body of the University of Trier in their currently valid version.

The Autonomous Student Council Gathering represents the specific interests of the students of its respective student bodies and student councils in committees and institutions of the University of Trier.

The main goals of the work of the AFaT are:

• Distribution of student council funds
• Interdisciplinary freshmen program
• Coordination of plans that concern multiple student councils
• Support of plans that exceed the capacity of singular student councils
• Promotion of interdisciplinary action and engagement with students
• Education in all areas regarding the University
• Oversight and support of rebuilding, restructuring, and resolution of student councils

Every student council has a vote in the AFaT and chooses at least one person from their midst to represent the student council in AFaT meetings for the length of their legislature. For the representatives, a collection of useful documents is provided.
