Changing your university password

When you received your information package upon enrolling, it contained your university user ID and a temporary password to allow you to log in to your account at Trier University. With this login information, you have access to the majority of the university's IT services. Your user ID is required, among other things, for logging on to the network as well to use the computers in the public PC pools, for accessing your university e-mail, access to campus WLAN (Wi-Fi), for external access via VPN, for using various platforms and applications, such as PORTA, Stud.IP, Zoom, etc., as well as for many other services.

We strongly recommend that you change your temporarily assigned password immediately after receiving your access data and with a secure password of your choice. In addition, we ask you to keep your password confidential in your own interest, not to share it with others and to change it regularly.

The criteria for creating a password can be found below under "Password guidelines".  Information on how to change your password is further down the page under "How to change your university password".

Forgot your password?

If you have forgotten your password or lost your access data, but still have access to your university mailbox, e.g., via an e-mail programme or your smartphone, you can contact the ZIMK Help Desk via e-mail (zimkserviceuni-trierde) using your university e-mail address to have your password reset.

In the e-mail, please include your surname, given name(s), date of birth and your student ID number.
