About us

Our Focus

Modern lifestyles leave their mark on the environment. Through our research at the interface of environmental analytical chemistry and ecotoxicology, we contribute to a better understanding of the complex entry pathways, environmental behavior, and environmental impacts of anthropogenic trace organic substances. A better understanding will help to sustainably reduce their environmental input. A key research focus of our group is on substances with persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic properties, for which "blind spots" exist in environmental risk assessment. These include, for example, second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides, which are used as rodent poisons and pose a high risk of poisoning to wildlife.

Current Research Projects

  • Research and development project on “Biomonitoring of environmental pollutants using otter samples” (Project No. 3726 63 401 0; duration: July 2026 – June 2029), in cooperation with the German Environment Agency (UBA), the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG), and the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) within the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V.
