Current project
Ecology, phylogeny and phylogeography of the genus Lyciasalamandra
The genus Lyciasalamandra lives in mountainous habitats along the southern Anatolian coast, on some islands close to the coast, and on the Karpathos archipelago. These viviparous salamanders live exclusively on bolder fields at the foot of limestone mountains.
We study the evolution of this genus using molecular genetic techniques. Based on small scale sampling we reconstruct the spatial and temporal history of their distribution ranges. Detailed analyses of two hybrid zones will provide insight into the dynamics of gene exchange after secondary contact.
