The two-day workshop aims to support Ph.D. students in preparing for the oral examination at the end of the doctorate. This usually takes the form of a disputation, i.e., a verbal defense of the dissertation and/or other theses. A successful disputation can positively affect the overall grade of the doctorate. In worst cases, an “unsuccessful” performance can lead to failure and require retaking the disputation. Accordingly, the disputation often gives rise to worries and fears, which can be overcome with systematic preparation.

In this workshop, we will deal with the formal and informal requirements of the disputation, develop preparation strategies (day 1) and practice the academic defense of your own work (day 2).

Participants are encouraged to present their own disputation theses (already submitted or in preparation).
