A. Subject of the research project and basis of the declaration of consent

1. Description of the research project

Taiwan as a Pioneer (TAP) is an interdisciplinary and supra-regional postdoctoral joint project aimed at promoting, structurally strengthening, and networking Taiwan-focused research within the field of Sinology. The project’s primary focus is on examining Taiwan’s role as an innovator in the context of global megatrends.

Initially, TAP was funded for a four-year period (February 2022 – January 2026) by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and represented a cross-institutional collaboration between Trier University, the University of Tübingen, and Ruhr University Bochum. In February 2026, the German Ministry of Research Technology and Space funded an additional year to strengthen the visibility of this collaborative research network. The initiative seeks to establish both intra- and interdisciplinary research structures.

As part of this project, Trier University collects profiles from Taiwan experts independently of the partner universities mentioned. This data protection information is intended to inform you about the processing of your personal data in the context of these interviews.
