EnMAP Science Advisory Group

EnMAP

EnMAP (Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program) is a planned German hyperspectral earth observation satellite mission providing high quality hyperspectral image data on a timely and frequent basis. The sensor will record images in 30 m spatial resolution in more than 200 spectral channel in the wavelength region 420 to 2450 nm. The main objective is to investigate a wide range of ecosystem parameters encompassing agriculture, forestry, soil and geological environments, coastal zones and inland waters. This will significantly increase our understanding of coupled biospheric and geospheric processes and thus, enable the management and ensure the sustainability of our vital resources. The envisaged launch of the EnMAP satellite is 2020.

EnSAG

The EnMAP Science Advisory Group was established to assist universities and research institutes in preparing for the use of EnMAP data. Besides the Principal Investigator (who is responsible for soil science and geology research) there are groups for water and ice applications, agriculture, urban areas, natural and transitional ecosystems and for forest applications. The EnSAG is funded by the German federal ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The EnSAG group at the University of Trier (Prof. Dr. Joachim Hill, Dr. Henning Buddenbaum, Sandra Dotzler, Barbara Paschmionkal) ist responsible for the development of algorithms for using imaging spectroscopy in forestry applications.
