Teaching-Assistantship for international PhD students

The International Office and Graduate Centre of Trier University provide financial support for  teaching assistantships in the winter term 2022/2023.

Application deadline: to be announced

Teaching Assistantships allow outstanding international doctoral candidates to be actively involved in teaching life at Trier University. Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to assist in their doctoral supervisor’s courses, or independently teach tutorials accompanying a course within their subject. In this way, the international doctoral candidate will gain a teaching qualification and be further integrated into Trier University.

The Teaching Assistantship provides financial support of approximately 375 Euros per month for a period of four months, using funds sponsored by the Scholarship Foundation for International Students and Young Academics for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the German Academic Exchange Service. The successful candidates will spend 4-5 hours per week on teaching (including preparation time). The period of support runs for four months during the winter term 2022/2023, including teaching hours as well as preparation time before the start of the teaching term. At the end of the assistantship, the candidate is required to submit a short report on their experience.

Applications are accepted from doctoral students who…

  • are registered at Trier University in order to acquire a doctoral degree qualification
  • are not of German nationality
  • are not receiving a stipend or scholarship from the Scholarship Foundation for International Students and Young Academics or similar organisation (except for scholarships sponsoring individual supervision of the thesis)

Applications can only be accepted which are submitted by the doctoral candidate and their doctoral supervisor together. The candidate is allowed to assist other teaching staff within their field with the permission of their supervisor.

Application Documents to be supplied by the supervising academic:

  • Brief description of the courses in which the international doctoral candidate will be involved, with a detailed description of their tasks and the duration of their involvement, and an explanation of the suitability of the candidate to the tasks of a teaching assistant.
  • A reference detailing and explaining the international doctoral candidates progress on their thesis project.

Application Documents to be supplied by the doctoral candidate:
