  • non-invasive transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) provides us with the opportunity to study the influence of neuronal modulations on cognitive processes
  • transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), or transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) can be applied via electrodes attached to the scalp
  • this non-invasive brain stimulation allows us to modulate the cortical excitability of the stimulated brain regions

Lab equipment:

  • 4-channel DC stimulator (version MC) from NeuroConn (approved as a medical product in Germany)
    • bi-polar stimulation, sinusoidal stimulation up to 250Hz
    • current selectable up to 4.5 mA
    • stimulation duration up to 30 min
  • controlled by a panel PC (1.6 GHz)
  • the validation of current flow directions and stimulation of underlying brain regions can be simulated using simulation software (e.g., HD-Explore (Sosterix medical) or SimNIBS)
