21st Century Skills for 21st Century Success

Gone are the days when the secondary language classroom was nothing but grammar, often delivered in the form of a boring lecture, and followed up with dull gapfill exercises. Modern methodology now places a far greater emphasis on the present - as well as the future - needs of our learners.
In this highly practical session we will look at how the 'four Cs' - communication and collaboration, creativity and critical thinking - can be effectively combined with life and technology skills to create a meaningful and successful learning exploration for all.

Culture and Language - There's More to it than Red Buses and Five O'clock tea!

Some say that it is not possible to fully appreciate a language without understanding the culture that gave rise to it. To what extent is this true? How should we deal with the issue of culture in the classroom? Is it relevant to focus on culture when the majority of English used in the world is between speakers of other languages? Answers to these questions and more will be covered in this light hearted look at some of the links between language and national identity.
