About Trier, Germany

The city of Trier is located in the border region to Luxembourg, France, and Belgium. The city is known for the architectural legacies and water infrastructures left by the Romans, its role as the birth city of Karl Marx (who is still important in critical Political Ecology) as well as the surrounding vineyard landscapes in the Moselle valley. The transboundary river Moselle is itself an illustrative case for how hydro-social territories have been crafted over time in an interplay of politics, space and the coal industry which led to the canalization of the Moselle. The event will be based at Trier University.
