Profile

Prof. Dr. Claudia Ritzi studied communication science, political science and international economics at the Universities of Hohenheim and Stuttgart. Afterwards, she joined the Chair for Political Theory at Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg as a Doctoral Researcher. Claudia Ritzi spent the summer of 2010 as a Visiting Researcher at Stanford University and obtained her PhD in 2013 with a dissertation on the post-democratisation of the public sphere. She then worked in the research unit “Democracy and Democratization” led by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Merkel at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. From 2016 to 2018, she was a Junior-Professor for Political Theory at the University of Münster. Claudia Ritzi joined the University of Trier in October 2018 as the Chair for Political Theory and History of Ideas. She serves also as the deputy chairwoman of the executive board of the German Political Science Association (DVPW). Since October 2021 Claudia Ritzi holds the Senate Sexual Harassment Protection Office at Trier University. And since April 2023, she also holds the position as Director of the Department of Political Science.
