Information concerning the organisation of your studies

Subchill - the new common area for student use in the Mensa Tarforst (as of: 28.10.2020)

New common area for students to use in the hybrid semester

Effective immediately, Trier University students are able to use one of the 60 workstations in the basement of the Mensa on Campus I.

Studiwerk Trier has worked hard to redesign the basement of the Mensa. "Subchill" is the name of the new lounge/open area and work space on Campus I. The name says it all: fish and divers spread an “under the sea” atmosphere. As well, functionally, the room has an abundance of electrical sockets and WLAN. Students can use it to bridge the time between two classroom lectures or to be able to take part in on-line lectures with a laptop and headphones. The Studiwerk offers both warm and cold beverages as well as nourishment for the nerves from the vending machines in this area.

“Subchill" is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. While you are seated at a table, you may remove your face mask. The general rules of hygiene and physical spacing must be observed. The work and lounge area can only be reached through the exterior door from the Unipark.

The establishment of further areas for student use on the Trier University campus are being planned.

Official news post

Message from the Chancellor on the requirement to wear masks as of 26.10.2020 (as of: 23.10.2020)

Dear university students, staff, colleagues and members of the public,

The university president wrote in his email today: "If we have to adapt to the situation, we will do so". In view of the incidence rate of infection in the City of Trier and the increasing 7-day incidence rate, Trier is implementing the requirement for face masks to be worn at adult level educational events as of Monday, 26.10.2020.

As of 26.10.2020, all participants, students and lecturers at Trier University will therefore be required to wear face masks in all courses/lectures and teaching situations.  This requirement applies for the duration of the event.

The previously existing regulations regarding the obligation to wear face masks remain unaffected (please refer to my announcement on 15.09.2020): In all Trier University buildings, a face mask covering both nose and mouth must be worn.

The face mask regulations effective from 26.10.2020 refer to the buildings and all events. The regulations do not include the wearing of masks at the workplace (offices, university library, etc.) and in the common areas as long as the physical distance regulations can be observed. Face masks are not provided by Trier University. It is the responsibility of each individual to bring and wear their own face mask upon entering the university buildings and attending events at the university.

These regulations concerning the requirement to wear face masks apply until further notice.

Please inform the departments and, if necessary, the lecturers accordingly.

The use of a face mask covering mouth and nose makes an important contribution to further minimize the risk of infection and to protect each other. I therefore urge you to comply with the obligation to wear masks in the buildings and at events at Trier University.

Yours sincerely,
Ulrike Graßnick

Updated on 26.10.2020:

Dear university students, staff, colleagues and members of the public,

In addition to my message on 23.10.2020, regarding the requirement to wear face masks (see above), I would like to provide additional clarifications. Until further notice, the obligation to wear face masks also applies in the following situations in addition to the situations already described in my message on 23.10.2020:

  • Examinations
  • Meetings
  • Committee and board meetings

Due to inquiries, I would like to add that the face mask obligation in lectures/class applies both to the participating students and to the lecturer(s).

Yours sincerely,

Folgende pandemiebedingte Besonderheiten gelten:

Fachrichtungswechsel

IT access (29.04.2020)

The ZIMK Helpdesk (helpdeskuni-trierde) processes incoming requests for support on a daily basis. Typically, the more straightforward problems can be solved quickly. In the event that your technical equipment and/or the existing network connection makes it difficult or almost impossible to use the digital services, a separate address has been set up to log these access issues: itzuganguni-trierde.

Opening of the University Library (29.04.2020)

The University Library is open for lending. The reading rooms remain closed until further notice.  As the library is now open, the previous extension of all loan periods including inter-library loans, ends on May 8, 2020.

The library has been open since April 22nd from 10:00 – 15:00, resuming loans and returns. Notifications for the return of borrowed materials, will be sent by e-mail.  However, in order for distancing protocols to be observed and for material to be returned based on the chronology of the loans, the emails for returns will be staggered over the coming weeks.  If returning your item in person, please wait for the email notification.   You may also return items by mail to the following address

Universitätsbibliothek Trier
Ortsleihe
Universitätsring 15
54296 Trier

If you have any questions regarding a return or the return process, please email the returns office. Please note that late fees will again be charged for exceeding the loan period.

Effective May 4, 2020, interlibrary loan orders for publications can once again be placed. The service had been previously discontinued throughout the country but is now being offered. Due to a temporary agreement between the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder and the VG Wort, the corresponding articles may be delivered to users in electronic form (and not as hard copies) until the end of May.
