We are pleased to announce that the German Research Foundation (DFG) has funded our new research project “Visual Search Meets Action Control: The Role of Statistical Regularities” (FR 2133/28-1).
The project investigates how people use regularities in their environment to guide visual search and action. In everyday life, repeated spatial and contextual patterns help us find relevant objects more efficiently. However, visual search does not end with detecting a target: the target must also be selected as the goal of an action. The project therefore examines how learned statistical regularities influence the interaction between attention, visual search, and action control.
The project is led by Christian Frings as principal investigator. Jan Theeuwes will contribute to the project as a DFG Mercator Fellow, strengthening the collaboration between research on visual attention and action control.
