About the Fall School

This year's DGfS-CL fall school will be held at the Universität Trier on September 14-25, 2015.

The Computational Linguistics Fall School is a biennial event aimed at Bachelor- and Master-level students of computational linguistics or related subjects (e.g. computer science, formal linguistics) who wish to broaden their knowledge of techniques and methods used in natural language processing. The focus of the school is on innovative and emerging methods, which are not yet covered in standard degree programmes. All courses are taught in English.

The following courses will be offered (10x90 minutes each):

The programme is completed by two evening lectures (all welcome):

  • Sven Naumann, Universität Trier, Syntactic Complexity: Quantitative Methods and Measures (16.9.2015) (Unfortunately, the talk by Prof. Dr. Reinhard Köhler had to be cancelled.)
  • Maria Staudte, Saarland University, Situated Language Comprehension (23.9.2015)

...and a social programme.

You can attend as many courses as you wish. The choice of the courses is on-site, i.e. you can visit all courses that look interesting to you, and then decide which ones you want to follow through. You don't need to register for the courses in advance.

Students enrolled at a European university can obtain credits (4 ECTS credits per course). This requires the definition of a project in collaboration with the lecturer and autonomous completion of the project after the course.

Please note that some courses incorporate hands-on exercises so bringing your laptop would be great!
