Entrepreneurship

Sucess and  Satisfaction of Entrepreneurs

In several studies, we have investigated the (financial) success and start-up satisfaction of founders. In one study, we analyze the reaction of companies to the failure of their business using Twitter data.

Intention to start a business and its determinants

Furthermore, we investigated which factors influence the decision to start a business and which groups of people prefer to take over an existing business instead of starting a new one.

Start-up support and start-up policy

Start-up promotion and start-up policy pursue the goal of producing (successful) start-ups through government support and other government measures. The following studies fall into this area:

Image of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship

The public and media image of entrepreneurs is an important part of the start-up culture and influences the start-up climate and the motivation to start a business. The following study examines the image of entrepreneurs among the general public using a Europe-wide data set:

  • Adam-Müller, A., Andres, R., Block, J., Fisch, C. (2015). Socialist heritage and the opinion on entrepreneurs: Micro-level evidence from Europe. Die Betriebswirtschaft (Business Adminstration Review), 75(4): 211-232.

Innovative Entrepreneurship

Innovative entrepreneurship refers to entrepreneurs and start-ups that introduce innovative products and services to the market and see them through. However, the number of (truly) innovative start-ups is small. The challenges and characteristics of this group of startups differ significantly from other startups. As part of an extensive literature review, we have summarized the literature on innovative startups. Furthermore, we empirically investigated the role of entrepreneurship in transforming knowledge into innovative products.

Necessity Entrepreneurship

Necessity entrepreneurship is the term used to describe start-ups that occur due to a lack of alternative sources of income. Within the framework of several empirical analyses, the characteristics and success of necessity start-ups were investigated at the professorship. Furthermore, the founding satisfaction and the chosen competitive strategy of necessity founders were analyzed.

Personality of founders and entrepreneurs

Founders differ from other individuals in their personality. Within the framework of empirical studies, we investigated the extent to which attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has a positive effect on the decision to found a company. Furthermore, we used an analysis of Twitter data to determine the personality of entrepreneurs.

Part-time Entrepreneurship

The number of part-time start-ups alongside work and study has grown strongly in recent years. In several empirical projects, we have investigated the transition from part-time to full-time self-employment and the factors that lead to the start of a part-time business.
