Lecturer | Prof. Dr. Ludwig von Auer |
Type of Course | Lectures with Exercises (Compact Course) |
Course Number | 14402781 |
Language | English |
Content | The course repeats the mathematical foundations of economics. It is mainly concerned with different types of functions, their derivatives, and their graphs. Furthermore, methods of restricted optimization are taught. The basics of matrix algebra are also part of this course. |
Assignment |
The course must be visited by all students enrolled in the programs M.Sc. Economics or M.A. International Economics and Public Policy. |
Examination | A course-related exam is offered in the week after the lessons. Those who pass the exam obtain bonus points for the exam of the module “Microeconomics”. |
Time/Place | Monday-Friday, October 14 - October 18, 2024 Monday, October 21, 2024 Friday, October 25, 2024 |
Course Materials | Most of the course (all Chapters except for Chapter 9) is based on the textbook “Essential Mathematics for Economic Analysis” by Sydsaeter, Hammond, and Strom. The parts that we cover in the course are presented on slides. To each section of the slides a video has been produced. The exercises are discussed in class, while it is left to you to study the slides and videos on your own. If you have a good mathematical background you can just go through the slides. If your background is weak, you better study the slides and watch the corresponding videos. In addition, you may consult the textbook. It also contains a lot of exercises. |
