Mixed-integer optimization problems on networks with PDE constraints.
Alexander Martin, Fraunhofer IIS & Nuremberg University of Technology
Motivated by challenging issues in the transformation and control of our power system, we study mixed-integer optimization problems on networks with PDE constraints. Control decisions are typically modeled by integer optimization methods, while the physical behavior of water, gas, and hydrogen is represented in a continuous nonlinear manner, e.g., by partial differential equations (PDEs).
In this talk, mathematical approaches and insights into the efficient coupling of integer and continuous nonlinear optimization in this context will be discussed.
We will use examples from gas grid optimization in the context of SFB/TR 154 to demonstrate numerical success.
