Research

Research of the Chair of Management, Organization Studies and Human Resource Management (MOP) is problem-oriented, focuses on the fields of (strategic) management, organization studies and human resource management as well as their interfaces, and is fundamentally interdisciplinary based on insights from business management-releted fields such as psychology, sociology and economics.

In terms of content, our research covers various topics in the three areas of (strategic) management, organization studies and human resource management.

In the field of organization studies, the focus is on the internal and cross-organizational organization of structures and processes, and the decision-making and learning behavior of individual actors and groups (for example, teams) within organizations. Amongst others, problems relate to organizational learning, individual learning processes within organizations, dealing with organizational diversity and the effects of demographic change and digitization on organizational structures and processes.

In the field of (strategic) management, we examine selected problems in the areas of planning and implementation of management tasks, which focus on the question of why some organizations are more successful in competitive markets than others. In this context, we particularly focus on Mergers & Acquisitions (M & As) as part of corporate strategy, determinants of strategy changes, aspects of strategic decision-making behavior (for example in the context of cooperation) and institutional influences in international comparison.

We understand human resource management as an element that is embedded in the corporate strategy framework and that aims at achieving competitive advantage. Following this understanding, we examine employee-related measures for the acquisition, promotion, development and maintenance of human resources. Particular emphasis is placed on the areas of employer branding, employee motivation and leadership, the promotion of communication and intra-organizational knowledge transfer, and the challenges of international human resource management.

In terms of methodology, we apply an empirical approach in all three research areas by using large-scale secondary datasets, our own primary data (online and offline) and behavioral economic experiments. Several research projects are conducted in cooperation with partners from corporate prctice.
