Teaching in Sociology of Work and Organization
The fundamental orientation of the professorship's teaching is characterized by a discursive and text-based communication of sociological perspectives on work and organization. Of particular importance is the transfer of classical original texts and the basic problems of the social to today's relevant phenomena of cooperation and organization. Especially at the beginning of the BA course in the lectures on work and organization, we show that classical texts, for example by Karl Marx and Max Weber, but also by economists such as Herbert Simon and James March, still offer precisely formulated perspectives on work and organization today and help shape the academic (and social) discourse. We believe that an abstract-analytical approach and thinking outside the box, reading and interpreting complex academic texts and developing writing skills are fundamental to independent sociological thinking. Teaching research projects on the practice of organized cooperation today are also of particular importance.
The thematic framework of sociology of work and organization is broad and a wide range of theses are possible within this framework. They are a central opportunity to specialize during your studies and to address future fields of work. Please contact us with your suggestions.
Please note:
To request a meeting to discuss your final theses and term papers in the subject area of the professorship, please send us a short draft (one page) that narrows down the three elements of the research triad as precisely as possible:
- The research question that will be adressed
- The subject of the study/observation (in the case of empirical theses, including the intended methodological approach and data basis)
- The theoretical perspective of the study, i.e. what references you make to concepts derived from empirical research or theories of society
