German Language Courses
An adequate knowledge of German is required for studying law at the University of Trier, as all courses are taught exclusively in German. The University of Trier offers several courses at various levels for students who wish to improve their German.
The aim of these language courses is to help students to overcome language problems more easily. Aspects of current, culture-historical and intercultural regional studies will also be taken into account.
At the beginning of the semester there will be a classification test for all foreign students. The results of this test and the wishes of the students form the basis for the ensuing recommendation to take language courses.
Students with good O- or A-level knowledge are recommended to take 2 hour tutorials in the module system; this means that a maximum of 3 different tutorials can be chosen from the range per semester.
Students with a lower level of understanding are recommended to take 12 hour-intensive courses.
Students who have taken all necessary language courses during their stay in Trier can obtain a certificate for additional language courses. This certificate is issued by the department "German as Foreign Language", if successful participation (passing of exams) in each individual course is shown.
