Simulations
To prepare the delegates for what awaits them at NMUN in New York, TriMUN takes part in various other simulations in cities like Erfurt, Berlin or Weimar. The simulations usually cover 3 – 4 days over a weekend. Here our delegates meet other delegations from universities all around Germany and have a chance to apply what they learnt during the preparatory seminar and hone their skills in negotiation, public speaking and more.
In New York, the entire TriMUN delegation will represent a single country – this is different at the previous simulations. To broaden their perspectives and introduce delegates into different styles of negotiation, each delegate will have their own country assigned to them. This allows delegates to experience a wider range of positions in the international system. They represent this country in a selected committee of the United Nations (such as the Security Council, General Assembly, ECOSOC etc.). The goal in these simulations ist o firstly strategize and find allies that have similar interests to yours, with which you then work together to write a resolution. In this process you must ensure your interests are met, while of course maintaining your diplomatic esteem. It is a difficult, but highly interesting process. The next step might however be even more convoluted, as you then look to other interest groups to gather support or perhaps merge your proposals into one. You might also want to read other proposals and either support them or make suggestions which usually align with your interests. Since in the real United Nations, most resolutions are passed by acclimation or with large majorities, delegates attempt to merge as many of the proposals as possible until all are happy.
These simulations are excellent opportunities to find friends among students not just from Germany, but from all over the world and establish valuable contacts.
