Prof. Dr. Richard Laufner †
Richard Laufner was born in Vienna in 1916, where he studied history, German studies, and art history, receiving his doctorate in 1940. In 1946, he became a research associate at the Episcopal Archives in Trier. In 1951, he moved to the city archives there, where he became director in 1963 until his retirement in 1981. From 1972, he held teaching positions in auxiliary historical sciences and urban and regional history at the University of Trier, which was newly founded in 1970 and became independent in 1975. He was appointed honorary professor of regional history in 1976. In 1987, Laufner was awarded the Federal Order of Merit for his outstanding services to regional history. Richard Laufner died in Trier on November 28, 2014.
