How to get to University

Trier University consists of Campus I (main campus) and Campus II. Both campus are connected via a footpath. The walk takes about 15 minutes.

Directions to Campus I

Travelling by city bus (from the city centre)

From the main train station (Hauptbahnhof)

  • Route 3 (towards Kürenz / Lud.-Erhard-Ring): weekdays every ten minutes, bus stop Universität
  • Route 13 (towards Tarforst): weekdays every ten minutes (when classes are in session), bus stop Universität Mensa
  • Route 83/85 (towards Tarforst): early mornings, evenings and weekends every half an hour, bus stop Universität
  • Route 30 (towards Pluwig / Bonerath): every half an hour, bus stop Universität Süd
  • Route 81 (towards Tarforst): early mornings, evenings and weekends every half an hour, bus stop Universität Süd

From Porta Nigra/Karl-Marx-Haus (the Karl Marx house)/Kaiserthermen (the Imperial Baths)

  • Route 6 (towards Tarforst): weekdays every twenty minutes, bus stop Universität Süd
  • Route 16 (towards Trimmelter Hof): weekdays every twenty minutes (when classes are in session), bus stop Universität Süd

From Porta Nigra/Gartenfeld neighbourhood/Petrisberg neighbourhood/Campus II

  • Route 4 (towards Irsch): weekdays every half an hour, bus stop Universität Hauptgebäude
  • Route 85 (towards Pluwig / Bonerath): early mornings, evenings and weekends every half an hour, bus stop Universität

Directions by car

  • From any of the main routes to Trier, follow the signs to the university.
  • On Campus I you can use the free parking in the Besucherparkplätze Ost (visitor parking lot east) (recommended for building A, B, C, V, DM, N und P, Audimax/Mensa, Studihaus, library und laboratory building) or the Besucherparkplätze West (visitor parking lot west) (recommended for Audimax/Mensa, library, building D, E und N).

Directions by bicycle (from the city centre)

There is a beautiful and peaceful bike path through the Avelertal.

Also, the Kleeburger Weg is a good route for bikes, as the grade is not very steep and there is not much traffic.

  • Route 4 (towards Irsch): weekdays every half an hour, bus stop Universität Campus 2
  • Route 3 (towards Tarforst / Kürenz): weekdays every ten minutes, bus stop Bonifatiusstraße, then a ten-minute walk
  • Route 13 (towards Tarforst): weekdays every ten minutes (when classes are in session), bus stop Bonifatiusstraße, then a ten-minute walk
  • Route 14 (towards Kürenz): by day during term time, every 30 minutes, stop "Universität Campus 2"
  • Route 83 (towards Tarforst): early mornings, evenings and weekends every half an hour, bus stop Bonifatiusstraße, then a ten-minute walk
  • Route 85 (towards Pluwig / Bonerath): early mornings, evenings and weekends every half an hour

To the bus schedules

Directions by car

  • Coming from the city centre, follow the signs for "Universität".
  • At the roundabout in the Kohlenstraße please take the exit "Campus II", "Wissenschaftspark".
  • Follow the signs for "Campus II".
  • If you drive through Olewig, follow the signs for “Universität“, drive past the main campus towards "Wissenschaftspark (Stadtmitte)" and follow the signs for "Campus II".
  • On Campus II there is free parking directly in front of the university building.

Directions by bicycle (from the city centre)

The direct route from the city centre via the Sickingenstraße to campus II should only be taken by those used to biking up hill. Somewhat longer, but with a less steep grade and with few cars is via the Kleeburger Weg.
