Chair of Business Information Systems II – Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Information Systems

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a fascinating, highly topical, and very important area for business, administration and society. Artificial Intelligence aims at enabling computers to perform complex tasks that require cognitive capabilities that until recently were attributes to humans only. This includes, for example, understanding, learning, reasoning, or planning. While basic AI research dates back to the 1950s, the development of practical applications is currently gaining momentum due to the wide availability of increasingly powerful computers.

The team of the Chair of Business Information Systems II headed by Prof. Dr. Ralph Bergmann is internationally recognized in the field of AI and the development of intelligent information systems. The research group leader can look back on more than 30 years of experience in research and teaching in various areas of AI. The research focus is on the development of experience-based learning systems. The research philosophy is the synergistic combination of basic and application-oriented research, targeting concrete problems from economics, industry, and administration. Our research is embedded in the research area Smart Data & Knowledge Services of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI).

We have been or are involved in numerous research projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the European Union (EU) and industry. Our publications document our research results in detail, as well as the large number of completed academic theses. If you are a student, you can profit from our contacts and research experience directly, as part of our lectures or while doing your own thesis work.
