Elena Freund (PhD Researcher)

Elena is a doctoral candidate and research associate in human geography. In her PhD-project, she focuses on human-nature relations of capitalist crisis management. While researching the intersection of law, space, and society, she is especially interested in looking at the entanglement of societal relations with nature and law through a combined perspective from feminist political ecology and legal geographies.

Since April 2022, Elena has been working and teaching for the Sustainable Spatial development and governance research group. Her teaching activities focus on gender-sensitive planning and decision-making processes and (environmental) conflicts in spatial planning. Elena also supervises student theses. Since March 2023, she is co-organiser of the 5th and 6th interdisciplinary graduate conference DocColloq at Trier University.

Elena holds a Master’s degree in cultural geography (Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg) and a Bachelor’s degree in cultural studies with a minor in law (Leuphana University Lüneburg). After finishing her studies, she worked for 18 months as a research associate in the field of transdisciplinary sustainability research at the Institute of Ethics and Transdisciplinary Research and the Institute of Sustainable Development and Learning at Leuphana University, Lüneburg.
