About

Prof. Marion G. Müller has a multidisciplinary and multicultural background. Born in the USA, raised in Germany, she studied Political Science, Art History and Law Studies in Heidelberg and Hamburg. During her study she complete part of the programm abroad in Toulouse (ín France. As a DFG (German Research Foundation) scholarship holder at the interdisciplinary Graduate School "Political Iconography" of the University of Hamburg, she completed her doctoral thesis on the history of the American election poster from 1828 to 1996. From 1990-1991 she worked as a German Marshall Fund Fellow in the US Congress. In 1997 (during her postdoctoral project) she also completed a film education at the New York Film Academy. From 2001-2003 she was a scientific assistant at the Institute for Political Science of the University of Hamburg, where she also habilitated. From 2004 until her appointment to the University of Trier in February 2019, she was a professor of mass communication at the English-speaking Jacobs University Bremen. Together with Prof. Thomas Knieper (University of Passau), she founded the Visual Communication Department of the German Association for Journalism and Communication Studies (DGPuK) in 2000 and was its spokesperson from 2004-2007. From 2007-2011 she was the chairwoman of the Visual Communication Studies Division of the International Communication Association (ICA). From 2009 to 2013 she was the founding director of the interdisciplinary research center Visual Communication & Expertise (VisComX) at Jacobs University Bremen.
