Knowledge and Process Management

Knowledge and Experience Management
In the global knowledge economy we have today, the importance of knowledge as production factor has increased significantly. Knowledge management is an established cross-disciplinary field that deals with strategies and technologies that help organizations to explicitly deal with their knowledge in order to improve organizational performance. This includes knowledge identification and discovery, knowledge representation, storage, and distribution as well as (re-)use of knowledge. Experience is an important piece of knowledge with extraordinary value and deserves special consideration. Hence, experience management has developed as a field focusing on methods and tools for efficiently managing experiential knowledge.
Process Management
Process management is a well-established discipline that deals with the identification, modeling, analysis, improvement, and implementation of business processes. It is a methodology that is widely applied today to improve the operation of organizations and to align the IT development with business processes. One of the biggest challenges today arises from the fact that many companies and organizations must be able to more quickly adapt their business according to newly arising market opportunities and demands from the customer, due to actions of the competitor’s, or due to new technological developments. Agile business is required, which needs appropriate tools for process management based on intelligent technologies.
Our Competences
We have long-standing experience in knowledge and process management, particularly on technologies and methodologies that support their practical implementation. Today our focus is on the integration of knowledge and process management, as knowledge and processes interact with one another in various ways. Particularly, we aim towards the vision to develop methods and tools that allow to flexibly adapt business processes on demand, based on best use of existing knowledge and experience. The CAKE (Collaborative Agile Knowledge Engine) framework developed by the group is a generic software system we use in case studies to explore our ideas in concrete application scenarios.
- Experience management and knowledge management architectures and methodologies
- Business process modeling, in particular agile business process modeling
- Modeling of knowledge and experience, including ontology engineering
- Processes for knowledge capturing and integration from different sources
- Semantic process modeling
