Exams
Registration and Deregistration
Registration for exams is done via PORTA. It should be noted that registration for the exam does not occur automatically when you register for the lecture, but must be done separately (this may be different for portfolio exams!). Registration must be completed two weeks before the exam. The cancellation deadline for exams, oral exams and open-book exams ends at midnight on the 7th day before the exam. For all other exams, the deadline is midnight the day before the exam.
Examination Forms
There are several forms of examination:
- Examination The most common form of examination in B. Sc. Computer science is the exam. Registration for the exams takes place via PORTA and must be done at least two weeks in advance. Deregistration is also only possible up to two weeks before the exam. The exam usually lasts 90 minutes (like a lecture) and, with a few exceptions (Programming I and II, XML, possibly application subjects such as Geoinformatics I), does not take place on the computer.
- Oral exams Oral exams last between 15 and 30 minutes (Bachelor and Master). Oral examinations are more common in the Master's than in the Bachelor's due to the lower number of participants. In the Bachelor's program, oral examinations are offered in the modules "Discrete Structures and Logic" and "Formal Languages and Computability" in the computer science subjects. The exam date will be agreed with the lecturer, but registration on PORTA is also mandatory.
- Portfolio exam Such exams usually contain a task that must be completed during a specified period of time. This form of examination is used in the bachelor's degree, for example in internships in study projects, in management of software projects and in some application subjects (including geoinformatics).
Repeating an Exam
If an exam is not passed, it must be repeated. The following rule applies: A module examination should be repeated at the next possible date. A total of four semesters are available for the first and second repetition. The exam dates for this event should be taken within this time, but please note the following: Registration for repeat dates is NOT automatic! You have to do this yourself every time - via PORTA! If a repeat appointment is not attended, this repeat appointment is also not passed! A failed exam can be repeated twice. More than these three attempts are only possible once: An oral supplementary examination in accordance with Section 13 Paragraph 5 APOB is possible once during the course of the study. It must be taken within 4 months of the announcement of the examination results of the last repetition of the corresponding exam. If the last repetition of an exam is not passed, an oral supplementary examination will take place if this is provided for in the subject examination regulations for the respective subject.
Preparing for an Exam
The preparation for the exam (and also the scheduling ;-)) is the responsibility of the students themselves. Whether the exam focuses on the exercise or the lecture varies greatly depending on the event. Old exams from previous semesters are often helpful when preparing for exams. To receive these, simply email the student council (but make sure that your mailbox still has some space, as PDFs and scans can sometimes be larger). However, we can only provide you with exams that we have received! Please be fair and send us scans or notes of what was required of you in the exam or exam so that the next year can also use current materials!
Examination Regulations
The basic conditions for examinations (e.g. the form) are set out in the general examination regulations (separately for bachelor's and master's degrees). Each department has its own examination regulations, which also apply.
