Jini-based Traffic Control in Mobile Networks
In this research project, the benefits and limitations of new technologies such as Java, Jini, Smartcards, and GPS in the context of mobile networks are exploited to realize a national traffic control system. The basic goal is to reduce the overall traffic volume by broking requests in an eletronic car pool service and to implement this functionality as an additional service of the mobile network provider. Cars are equipped with mobile communication facilities and with a GPS system for location purposes. They communicate with stationary systems on their route, to inform about their destination as well as possible delays and to receive travel requests.
All communication between cars, cars and stationary systems, and users is based on the Jini standard and is suited to the needs of cell-based mobile networks.
