As 2023 ends and before attention turns fully to 2024, it is appropriate to take a look back at the diverse events of the past year. Although media reports cover and explain a wide range of important topics, events and developments, questions about overarching development trends, explanations and meanings often remain unanswered. Scientific analysis can provide clarity and orientation here. Our Political Science Review 2023 serves as a science-communicative medium that aims to make a contribution to bringing scientific findings and perspectives to the public.

In this review, we categorize events of the year 2023, comment on them from a political science perspective and explain current events on the basis of research findings. In doing so, we focus both on topics that received a lot of media attention in the past year and on events that received less media attention, but which we believe are interesting and relevant to current affairs.
