Trier’s research on political theory focuses on transformation processes and challenges of contemporary democracy and their theoretical implications. This includes an occupation with crises theories – especially scholarly debates on post-democracy and democratic innovations – or new forms of political participation. Our area of expertise includes public sphere and deliberative democratic theories.
Professor Ritzi has published extensively on the post-democratisation of the public sphere, the conditions for democratic legitimacy in the digital era, direct democracy, as well as political participation ‘on-‘ and ‘offline’. Claudia Ritzi is co-editor of a two-volume textbook on contemporary democratic theory and, most recently, an Open Access series on politics in the digital society. A list of selected publications can be found here.
