Bachelor's and diploma theses are assigned centrally: This year, a topic allocation took place at the beginning of April. Further applications are currently not possible due to a lack of capacity. The next allocation date is October 1, 2013, where, however, at most a few places are still available, so that if you apply to our department, it is unfortunately likely that you will be allocated to another department. In October 2013, a standardized system will be introduced in business administration, in which our department will also participate. Students will be informed about this in good time.
If you are interested in writing a Master's thesis at our chair, you can make an appointment with the chair holder by email at any time to discuss the assignment of a topic. We will then try to find a topic that matches your interests and abilities, provided we still have supervisory capacity. You then have one week to decide whether you definitely want to write about the topic. In this case, you must submit an application from the HPA to our office by the deadline. In individual cases, the feasibility of the topic can be checked by arrangement before the deadline. Your own topic suggestions are possible, but experience has shown that feasibility is the exception. The thesis will be supervised by the chair holder or one of his/her staff members. Theses can be written in German or English. Knowledge of statistical software, programming languages or mathematics is of course an advantage.
Advice on how to write academic papers can be found in the following document. It is recommended to write the paper in LaTeX. Information on this can be found at http://www.financial-economics.de/latex
A CD-ROM with the following files must be submitted with the thesis:
- PDF file of the submitted version of the thesis
- Source files (i.e. Word or all Latex files)
- All data analysis files (e.g. Excel, SPSS, Matlab etc.)
- Any other relevant information for the evaluation of the thesis
Written documents (e.g. questionnaires) that are important for the thesis must also be handed in or (after approval by the chair) at least archived privately.
We would like to point out that deliberate or inadvertent (partial) plagiarism (e.g. non-disclosure of sources, failure to identify quotations, even in paraphrased form, etc.) can lead to rejection of the thesis and even more far-reaching consequences. Please be particularly careful in this regard!
Finally, a word about the number of pages: The length of the paper depends on the topic. Therefore, no fixed limits are given. What matters is the content of the paper!
Here you can find the Declaration of Academic Integrity.
