Prof. Dr. Jennifer Turner

Jennifer Turners Forschung konzentriert sich auf Gefängnisräume und deren Auswirkungen auf das Personal und die Inhaftierten. Im weiteren Sinne hinterfragt die Forschung die Beziehung zwischen der Strafjustiz und der breiteren Gesellschaft, indem sie den Ansatz der „Karzeralität“ verwendet, die die Aufmerksamkeit auf andere Bereiche wie das Militär und sogar die Verwaltung der Ozeane ausweitet. Jennifer beschäftigt sich auch mit politikorientierter und ethisch fokussierter Forschung.

Jennifer ist seit Oktober 2023 an der Universität Trier, nach einem Umzug nach Deutschland im Jahr 2020, um die Forschungsgruppe „Crime and Carcerality“ an der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg zu leiten. Jennifer ist in Humangeographie ausgebildet. Nach einem Master in Space, Place and Politics und einer Promotion über die Grenzen des Carceral Space an der Aberystwyth University, Großbritannien, arbeitete Jennifer als Postdoctoral Research Fellow an der University of Leicester und als Lecturer und Senior Lecturer an der University of Liverpool. Jennifer ist außerdem Senior Honorary Research Fellow an der University of Birmingham und Mitglied der internationalen Carceral Geography Working Group.
