Funding Programs

Doctoral students have various opportunities to raise funds for their research projects and earn a living with the help of various scholarships. Stays abroad or active participation in a conference can also be funded.

Trier University also offers postdocs and junior professors various opportunities for funding research and publication projects, financial support for conference travel, the organization of scientific events and the establishment of networks and cooperative relationships at national and international level.

Every six months, the Graduate Center announces the funding program “PhD Candidate and Parent” for doctoral students at Trier University who are exposed to multiple burdens due to child rearing and doctoral studies. The sponsored doctoral students are relieved by a student assistant who can take on simple auxiliary scientific activities.

GUT offers the “TriGUT” funding programme for doctoral students and postdocs to organize and hold their own conference or meeting. Funding recipients receive financial support of up to €2,500 for specified purposes.

Doctoral students and postdocs can also apply for the GUT Publication Award, which is endowed with €500, with publications that were produced and published during their doctorate. In addition, there is a chance of winning the presentation prize, which is endowed with a further €500.

PhD Candidate and Parent

The Graduate Center of Trier University (GUT) is once again announcing the funding program “PhD Candidate and Parent”. The aim of this program is to support doctoral candidates who are exposed to multiple burdens due to raising children and doing a doctorate by providing them with an assistant. This assistant supports the funded doctoral candidates by carrying out auxiliary scientific activities, such as library loans, laboratory work, reviewing material or proofreading. The program is funded by Trier University to promote a family-friendly university.


The application deadline is Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
