Trier Tenure-Track (T³) Program

Trier University considers the promotion of young academics and supporting them in their professional career development to be central tasks that are highly relevant for the development of the university as well as for its contribution to shaping society and the economy. Its aim is to promote early academic independence, to further develop subject-specific and interdisciplinary research skills, to impart university didactic qualifications, to strengthen interdisciplinary, job-related skills and to make career paths plannable and transparent for professional activities within and outside academia.

Trier University supports junior professors in their career development with the Trier Tenure Track Program (T³). For this group, it offers tailored development measures and individual support from entry to appointment or preparation for an alternative career path that leads to another position within or outside the university. Trier University has formulated guidelines and developed its own competency framework for quality assurance and development in the area of junior academic support, which operationalizes the individual competencies required for working in academia and serves as a guide for junior professors.

Further information on the relevant guidelines and statutes of Trier University as well as the competency framework developed can be obtained from the University's Quality Management and Teaching Development (QML) unit.

The Trier Tenure Track Program (T³) includes the following offers:

Kick-off for junior professors

The first meeting of junior professors at Trier University provided an opportunity for them to get to know their colleagues as well as the services and contact persons at the Graduate Center and the university. The focus was on collegial networking, an initial exchange of experiences and an evaluation of the target group's needs.

In addition to the Welcome Day, GUT regularly organizes events on specific topics related to career planning and personnel development for junior professors.

Coaching

As a junior professor, do you have a specific concern that you would like to explore in greater depth in an individual coaching session? We can organize a coaching session of two to four hours that is tailored to your current needs and offers the opportunity to tackle current challenges and clearly define goals.

Possible topics that can be dealt with in coaching are, for example:

  • Strategic planning for the junior professorship: How do I successfully implement my career goals and plan my next steps?
  • Research and visibility: How do I build a strong research profile and increase the visibility of my work?
  • Communication and negotiation skills: How do I communicate effectively with colleagues, on committees or when supervising students?
  • Team development: How do I promote cooperation and trust within my team in order to successfully achieve common goals?
  • Career planning: How do I develop a long-term career strategy that takes into account both my academic and personal goals?

You can work on these or other topics with an experienced coach and develop specific strategies.

Important note: As coaching cannot cover all topics in detail, we recommend that you consider in advance which topic is currently most important to you. This will allow you to get the most out of the session. You can use the application form to formulate your concerns precisely and find the right coach for your topic.

In addition to coaching, regular GUT qualification events offer further support.
