Research at Trier University

Transformation, resilience, digitality, and diversity: These four cross-cutting dimensions are designed as transversal research perspectives that connect research across disciplines.

They shape the university's profile, which centers on people and society. These cross-cutting dimensions are linked by bridging themes: culture, medium, knowledge; cognition, action, profession; communication, variation, modality; norms, systems, structures; complexity, uncertainty, modeling; space, environment, resources.

These bridging themes provide the thematic framework within which researchers, drawing on their individual interests and expertise, develop interdisciplinary research perspectives and establish and continuously refine collaborative research priorities.

Locations for collaborative research include research institutions within the disciplines, interdisciplinary research centers, externally funded research consortia such as research groups, priority programs, and graduate schools, EU projects, and collaborative projects funded under the Rhineland-Palatinate Research Initiative 2024–2028.
